The “Enhancing Access to Justice for GBV Survivors through Local Action in Afar and Amhara Regions of Ethiopia (EAGLE Project)” financed by the European Union (EU) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), seeks to address the pervasive issue of GBV by empowering survivors and enhancing their access to justice through targeted local interventions. The Project recognizes the urgent need to create a supportive environment where survivors can seek justice and receive comprehensive support services. Furthermore, the EAGLE Project places a strong emphasis on community engagement and awareness-raising activities to challenge harmful social norms and promote gender equality. By fostering dialogue and education within communities, the project seeks to shift attitudes towards GBV, reduce stigma surrounding survivors, and ultimately create a culture of respect and dignity for all individuals.
This project aims to increase awareness and advocate for the protection of women and girls among duty bearers and relevant stakeholders, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the intervention. Key stakeholders will be actively engaged throughout the project to secure its sustainability, as these organizations have the permanence and authority to uphold the protection of women and girls from all forms of violence beyond the project’s duration. The project focuses on equipping duty bearers with the necessary capacity and skills to fulfill their responsibilities in a survivor-centered and trauma-informed manner. Additionally, grassroots CSOs and associations will be involved to act as intermediaries between rights holders and duty bearers. They will receive support to enhance their ability to lobby, advocate, and establish mechanisms for engaging rights holders, as well as holding duty bearers accountable for their actions.
